Bauer Ice Hockey Skate Sizing Guide

With almost 70% of all NHL players wearing a Bauer skate, it’s easy to see why they’re such a popular option for ice hockey players of all ages and abilities. 

We’ve broken down the sizing for all the different Bauer ice hockey skates so that you can find the best fit for you. With most ice hockey skates, your skate size will typically be around one size down from your regular shoe size (although this can vary). When laced up, your foot should lie flat against the footbed, and your toes should lightly brush the front of the skate. This will give you a snug, responsive fit to connect with the ice and elevate your performance during your sessions on the ice.

Differences Between Bauer Skate Models

Finding a perfectly-fitting skate is vital to your performance, no matter your position — that’s why Bauer has two different lines of skates with slightly different fit profiles.

Bauer Vapor Skates

Built with a wide toe box that tapers down into a narrow V-fit at the heel, the Bauer Vapor skates lock the heel into place to keep you stable yet mobile. These skates are perfect for agile forwards or offensively-minded defensemen.

Bauer Supreme Skates

Keeping a consistent, anatomical feel around your entire foot, the Bauer Supreme skates reduce empty space for more powerful, explosive strides. Physically larger forward players or defensive defensemen get along well with the Bauer Supreme skates.

Bauer Ice Skate Widths/Volumes

Traditionally, Bauer skates were available in different widths that were classified with letters:

• Narrow skates were classified as ‘D’
• Skates with a regular width came in a ‘E’ or ‘R’
• Wide skates had an ‘EE’ classification

More recently, Bauer have moved away from the standard ice hockey width fitting and they now use their own 3D performance fit, helping you achieve a better fit in your skates.

The new Performance Fit System ditches the familiar ‘D’ and ‘EE’ width options and replaces them with three different ‘volumes’ — Fit 1, Fit 2 and Fit 3.

These are completely new fit profiles, that have optimised heel, forefoot and ankle wrap depths, plus the foot width that matches the 3D characteristics of the typical foot shape.

Here’s how the new fit profiles roughly translate into the traditional widths:

Bridging the gap between senior and junior skate sizes, Bauer intermediate skates are designed to fit preteen kids (between 10–13 years old) with shoe sizes of UK 4.5–7 before they graduate up to senior skate sizes.

Bauer Ice Hockey Skate Sizing For Women

All of Bauer’s skates are designed for both male and female ice hockey players. To find your skate size, go down three sizes from your regular women’s shoe size — if you’re usually a women’s size 7, you should be a size 4 in Bauer skates.
