A goalie catcher (or trapper) is designed to catch pucks, control rebounds, and protect the hand from high‑velocity shots.
Modern catchers use layered foams, reinforced palms, and deep pockets to maximise coverage and control.
A proper fit should feel:
- Secure around the wrist
- Comfortable in the fingers with full closing motion
- Centred so the glove closes naturally along the break line
A well‑fitted catcher improves catching consistency and reduces hand fatigue.
The break angle determines how the glove closes:
- 60°: Fingers‑to‑thumb closure
- 75° / 590: Natural baseball‑style closure
- 90° / 580: Fingers‑to-palm closure
Choosing the right break angle depends on your catching style and comfort.
Some high‑end catchers can be re‑palmed when the material wears out. This extends the life of the glove without replacing the entire unit. Willies can advise on brand‑specific compatibility.
