Willies Goalie Catchers For Ice Hockey

  • HOW DO GOALIE CATCHERS WORK IN ICE HOCKEY?

Originally based on the design of a baseball glove, a goalie’s catch glove in ice hockey is engineered to help you catch the puck and stop it from entering the net every time.

Catchers feature a protective padded cuff around the goalie’s wrist — these can either be a solid or two-piece cuff. Solid cuffs provide better padding and protection but restrict your movement more than a two-piece cuff. Two-piece cuffs feature a seam between the cuff and the glove itself, allowing extra flexibility for catching pucks or using your stick to pass.

  • WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FULL RIGHT AND A REGULAR GOALIE BLOCKER?

Regular catch gloves are worn on the left hand, whereas full right catch gloves are worn on the right. You need a regular catcher if you’re like most goalies in ice hockey and hold your stick in your right hand. If you have your stick in your left hand, then you need a full right catcher.

  • WHAT GOALIE GLOVE IS BEST FOR MY PLAYSTYLE?

Like most of your goalie gear in ice hockey, choosing the right catcher for you comes down to personal preference, so it’s a good idea to come into our store at Willies in Coventry to try out a few different catchers.

Blocking-style goalies need equipment as big as possible while remaining mobile to cover the net, so the Bauer Supreme Mach or Warrior Ritual G6 are great options. If you’re a more athletic goalie that likes to try and catch everything, you want a more lightweight catcher like the Bauer Vapor Hyperlite or the Warrior Ritual G6.1.

  • WHAT CATCHER IS BEST FOR BEGINNER GOALIES?

For beginner goalies, we recommend the Bauer GSX; it’s a perfect hybrid between the bulkier and the more agile catchers, as well as being budget-friendly while you’re learning the fundamentals of ice hockey.

  • WHAT SIZE CATCHER GLOVE SHOULD I GET?

You determine the size of the catcher you need by your palm measurement. Simply measure your hand from the heel of your palm to the tip of your middle finger, and then compare that to our size charts available for each catch glove.

There should be no more than a quarter inch between the top of your finger and the top of the finger stalls, but you should be able to wrap your fingers far enough around the break of the glove to close it.

  • WHERE CAN I GET AN ICE HOCKEY CATCHER FITTED?
