Are Edea Ice Skates A Good Brand?

Edea is an extremely popular ice skate brand, and it’s not hard to see why. Their ice skates are designed to be super comfortable and easy to break in, so you don’t have to worry about painful sores or pressure points after a long training session.

Every skate is manufactured in their Italian factory, supported by a rich family heritage — and that’s why beginners and pro skaters alike trust Edea ice skates

How To Measure For Your Edea Ice Skates

Getting the right ice skate size is crucial for your comfort and performance out on the ice. If you want to find the right size for your Edea ice skates at home, you’ll find what you need to do down below.

If you’d rather skip the DIY and get an expert recommendation based on your skating ability and unique foot shape/size, visit us in-store and chat with one of our experienced skate technicians.

To measure your feet accurately at home for your new Edea ice skates, you’ll need your skating socks, two blank A4 pieces of paper, a pencil, a ruler, and a friend who’s okay with getting up close and personal with your feet.

  • Pull on the socks you intend to use while you’re skating to make sure the measurements you take match your actual skating conditions.
  • Place two blank sheets of paper on the floor, and then stand upright on them, evenly distributing your weight between both feet.
  • Ask your helper to mark the paper at the tip of your longest toe and the very back of your heel. They’ll need to hold the pencil vertically to capture the most accurate measurement.
  • Repeat for the other foot.
  • Step off the paper and measure the distance in millimetres between your toe mark and your heel mark on both papers with a ruler.
  • Don’t worry if the measurements aren’t the same; it’s actually more common for one foot to be slightly larger than the other! Just make sure you use the larger measurement to determine your skate size.

Remember, skates are meant to fit more snugly than regular shoes. This snugness provides stability and precision while on ice, so don’t worry if your skate size is slightly different to your standard shoe size.

Finding The Right Edea Skate Size For Junior Ice Skaters

To accommodate growing feet, you can purchase skates that are half a size bigger than their current fit, but don’t go overboard — skates that are way too large can actually impact skating ability and will be uncomfortable over time.

For optimal fitting and advice, come and chat with us at Willies. With our expertise and experience, we can assess your foot structure, discuss your skating aspirations, and pair you with Edea skates that provide the best fit and appropriate stiffness for your ability level.

Finding The Right Width For Your Edea Skate

With Edea ice skates, finding the right width for your heel is more important than the widest part of your foot.

Edea skates come in 4 different widths, which will fit the majority of skaters:

  • B: Narrow
  • C: Normal (most common width)
  • D: Wide
  • E: Extra wide (only available with Edea instant custom fit)

The best way to ensure you get the right width is to get properly sized by an experienced skate professional — come and see us in-store, and we’ll get you sorted.

Edea Ice Skate Blades Sizing

Once you’ve figured out the boot size that is most comfortable for you, the next thing to look at with your new Edea ice skates is the blade size.

Do Beginner Ice Skaters Need To Worry About Blade Size?

Generally, if you’re just beginning to get to grips with ice skating, you don’t need to think about changing up your blades. Most beginner skates come with blades and are the perfect size for the boot, so as long as your foot fits your boot, you’ll be fine!

This is because when you’re starting out, the main goal is to start feeling comfortable and balanced on the ice while you’re developing your basic technique. At this point, the nuanced differences in blade length and profile won’t make any difference to you.

The size and profile of your ice skate blades start to become more critical when you progress onto more advanced elements like jumps, spins and combinations that might require specific blade lengths and toe picks.

You may also find, as your skating skill develops, that you prefer a certain size or type of blade or if you want to get that next level of customisation with a particular boot and blade combo.

So Why Is Blade Size Important?

When you reach the level where you can really notice how different blades affect your performance, it’s crucial to find the right blade for you.

Your blades will impact everything from:

  • Your balance and weight distribution
  • Your agility and stability
  • Your speed and smoothness
  • The position of your toe pick

What Edea Ice Skate Should I Buy?

Don’t think that just because your favourite Olympian wears a particular Edea model, they will be the right skates for you, too. First and foremost, you need to choose an ice skate that fits your foot perfectly — which means no pain and the right amount of ankle support for your skill level.

Will Edea Ice Skates Fit My Feet?

Before even looking at the different models of Edea ice skates available, you need to ensure that Edea’s typical fit profile is right for your foot shape.

Ice skate manufacturers will create their ice skates using something called a ‘last’, which is what they model the boot shape around. Each manufacturer will have a slightly different last, so they will better suit different foot shapes.

The trick is to find the manufacturer that produces ice skates with the closest last to your foot shape.

The great thing about Edea is that because of their lightweight technology and memory foam, Edea skates can adjust to fit most foot shapes and arches. However, they’re particularly suited to skaters with Greek (when your second toe is longer than your big toe) and irregular feet.

If that sounds like you, Edea ice skates could be a great pair of skates for your feet. If you want to take the guesswork out of it and try on a range of different ice skate brands, visit us in-store and chat with our ice skate technicians, who can match you up with the perfect brand, model and size of ice skate for you.

What Stiffness Rating Do I Need For My Ice Skates?

If you’re a beginner, don’t fall into the trap of thinking that higher-level, more expensive ice skates will do a better job! Ice skates come in a range of stiffness ratings; the stiffness rating you need will be directly linked to your current skill level.

While stiff boots are designed to support high-intensity jumps like triples and quadruples, they aren’t suitable for beginners — they will be too stiff, so you’ll be hobbling around the rink while trying to learn the basics. If you're just starting out, softer and more flexible boots will be more comfortable and appropriate for your skill level.
